Hollywood, Burbank, Los Angeles, Beverly Hills,Santa Monica,Modeling Shoot
To get great headshots you first have to find a good photographer that is able to capture your real essence and charm at your best. He has to have experience with that special format we call an actor's headshot which is very different than the model's headshot, corporate headshot, and simple portraits.

Once you have found the photographer, there are few things that you can do to increase your odds of getting great headshots:
1) Mark the date of the photo session on your calendar so you can estimate how many days you have to prepare before the shoot. Too many people try to do everything at the last moment. Some even do it all the night before the shoot and go to bed late, which is not recommended.
2) Clean your diet at least one week before the shoot so you can improve your skin and get a healthy glow. Drinking plenty of water helps hydrate the skin. It makes a big difference. Minimum alcohol drinking, smoking and drugs, helps a lot too. Try to eat the least sugar as possible. Fresh foods are good versus processed and junky food.
3) Exercise, but don't over do it, and stretch well. It's very simple, the healthiest you are, the most happy, relax, and confident you will be. That shows in the photos.
4) If you need to cut your hair and or color them, try to do it well in advance so you can own your new style. Don't wait for the last moment. The reason is that sometimes an actor gets great photos with one hair style but then change their hair style because they don't like it anymore. The problem is that now their headshots don't match their new look. When they go to an audition the casting director is surprised by the new look. It might be a good thing, but maybe not. It is known that the more you look like your headshot, the best chance you have of being what they are looking for, at least in terms of look.
5) Take your time choosing all the great clothing that compliments you and that are right for the type of image you want to project. Don't hesitate to bring more than you need to your photo session. It's better to have too many choices than not enough. Try to have choices of different colors and styles. Usually it's better to have darker colors than your skin tones. Avoid busy prints and stripes.
6) Try not to wear jewelry that distracts from the face.
7) Groom yourself in advance, not the same morning of the shoot because if you are in a hurry you might miss something like the hair nose.
Be sure to know the address of the shoot well in advance. Google map it, and give yourself extra time for the traffic. If you bring your own makeup artist and or hair stylist, give them the address well in advance. Being late can make you or the photographer anxious, and that can influence the photo session in a negative way.
9) Try to know clearly what you want to project with your photo. A talk with your agent and or manager can be very helpful. That will help the photographer direct you in the right direction if needed.
In other words, be prepared. The preparation will give you confidence. Confidence shows in a photo. Even if you are auditioning for a character that is not confident, you, the actor, has to be, because the director has to feel that he wants to work with you. Believe it or not, you can see a lot in a photo, especially if you have seen hundreds of them competing for one role. Your photo has to pop. One of the very first important step to get cast in a role is a great headshot.
